Every market in existence has inside secrets. Yes, even yours, no matter what business you’re in. There are secrets to French cooking, carpentry, scoring high in math tests, playing piano and becoming an astronaut. Also cleaning carpets, battling weeds in your garden, and finding the perfect mate.
Secrets come in different strengths. There is the standard strength secret, which you might find in a magazine at the checkout counter of your local grocery. Say, in a Cosmopolitan or Men’s Health. (“16 New Ways To Drive Your Lover Crazy!”)
Then there are the industrial-strength secrets. Stuff you can only get from a certified expert with top security clearance at the highest levels. (“Learn to fly the space shuttle, from a former NASA trainer.”)
Finally, there are the earth-shaking secrets… like we have in this ad. The kind of secrets that can get people fired, their reputations destroyed, careers ended. Steroids are the one subject that no one likes to discuss much in public in the gym. It’s a filthy little secret, the stuff of whispers and rumor. Yet… it’s one secret ALL bodybuilders want to know about.
Whether you choose to use them or not, you want to know the secrets.
This letter created shock waves in the bodybuilding world. Letters to the editor flooded into magazines, threatening calls were recorded, nasty accusations made.
In short… it caused a sensation. Few would admit to actually ordering this information… but many did.
Whatever business you’re in, there are dirty little secrets. If you have the guts, you may want to be that guy who reveals them to the market. You won’t win many friends in the industry… but you just might score yourself a lot of respect among people who revere the truth. It’s a risk– do not misunderstand me. Dangerous stuff.
But sometimes risk pays off.
