There were several Question and Answer sessions during the Action Seminars.
The questions related to copywriting are:
- Why don’t more business owners use direct response marketing and how to approach one and explain it to them.
- How do you get the client to implement/run the copy so he makes money?
Question from the audience: Why don’t more business owners use direct response marketing and how to approach one and explain it to them.
John: It is an educational process. It is counter-intuitive. Everyone wants to sell without selling, so it is an ongoing educational effort.
Jon Correll: For small business people, a consultant is someone who sucks money out of your business and gives no value. He is fighting against that image. He needs extreme risk-reversal, and needs to prove what he can do.
5:14 Question from the audience: How do you get the client to implement/run the copy so he makes money?
Jon Correll: We implement for the client, because they won’t do it.
John Carlton: Many of my best ads never got mailed.
Stan: You have to be at peace with what you supply to your clients. Many times the consultant is hired just to take the blame if something doesn’t work, and you have to know that what you did was of value.
Brian Johnson: Ask a lot of questions up front and make sure they can execute at the level they need to be successful. A lot of companies don’t manage their teams properly. Some implementation they do themselves.
John Carlton: Golf clients got him to write for them by telling him that they will mail everything he writes without editing. He got paid a percentage of the income.
Bond Halbert: You could test it for them using Google Adwords so you can show them results.
If any of the topics speaks to you, create a list of steps needed to implement the suggestion and go for it.
