Audacity is a popular tool for recording audios.  It is also free.

It is easy to use once you have it set up, but the set up process may be confusing for some, so we created a video to show how to get it working properly.

2024 update:  I recently installed Audacity on a new computer (Windows 11) and did not need to enable Stereo Mix or install a LLAME file, but am including the instructions here anyway.  The Stereo Mix instructions are different from what is shown in the video so I created a new video to show how to do it in case anyone needs it.

The method of enabling Stereo Mix has changed.  Here is a short video showing how to do it.  But, when I recorded using Audacity I didn’t need to enable it in order to record a video that was playing, as I showed in this video.  I am including the instructions anyway in case you need them:

I also did not need to install a LLAME file in order to save an Mp3 file, but am leaving this link in case someone needs it:

Here are the instructions for how to download and install a LLAME file.
