Hello everybody! I was wondering if it’s possible to rent out an email list of writers/authors and if it’s a good idea to do so.

Hello Club,
I signed up to this membership site to surround myself with marketing. Basically to learn, think, breathe, eat marketing. To make this my home page in all of my browsers so I’m forced to look at the feed the moment I come online. But I’m a bit disoriented at this moment. Awhile back I read John Carlton’s books, Gary Halbert’s book, A…Read more

Thank you for your reply.
I haven’t thought that far. Though, I believe that it is possible to list the claims and evidentials of an offer in any niche if given enough time to review the most popular books and articles in that subject. I read a lot every year, over 70+ books per year. So I’ve gotten good at spotting the claims inside of these…Read more

Hi Felix – I strongly suggest you learn while doing. You’ve read enough to know the basics to get started. Your first website and ad are not going to be your opus. That’s true for everyone. Don’t expect the first one to make you rich. Set a goal of making a profit and learning.
I haven’t checked if you’ve been through our Simple Writing System…Read more

Mr. Dahl thank you for taking your time to respond to me with such an in-depth and thoughtful response. You could’ve stopped right here…

I read “Kickass Copywriting Secrets” a few months ago. It was so good I bought the Simple Writing System course. A couple weeks ago I had a chance to put it all together for a client of mine. Using what I’d learned, I wrote a Facebook ad, a 3,000-word sales letter and an email sequence. The ad finished with a 6 percent CTR, the sales letter had a…Read more

Wow, Michael…that’s fantastic! Kudos to you for putting what you learned into action.

Congrats, Michael!
It’s fun when this stuff works, isn’t it.
-
Yeah it is! And I seriously just did what you said. I didn’t get fancy or try to reinvent the wheel. I set aside my ego and did my best to stick to what you laid out.

Hello all,
I am a direct response marketing addict and so once I learned of this membership site by John Carlton, I had to join. I have devoured all of the material ever created by the late and great Gary Halbert, and so now I am honored to learn what I can from someone who was taught directly by Halbert himself.
My most pressing issue at the…Read more

Welcome to the club.
The simplest way to find a product — when you are not passionate about something in particular, or do not start out with an idea and then become a marketer for it — is to make a list of the markets you would like to be in.
Just start listing them out. Nutrition. Guns. Golf. Sandlot baseball. Wine. Kitchen tools. Whatever.…Read more

John,
Thank you for the reply. It is an honor to be receiving advice directly from a legend like yourself.
Your advice is much appreciated. We will start digging into some markets that interest us through Google and see which ones provide the best opportunity/weakest competition.

So a trend is that longtime clients (4+ years) are the “WE LOVE YOUR DAD” responses.
While the clients who haven’t been around as long answer the questions via email.
So it seems that mailing postcards/SASE won’t be required,
a follow up phone call seems enough. That and my dad doesn’t want to pay postage for mailing out all those things.…Read more

Unless you’re pretty sure they hate you, there is no downside to contacting customers you did work for 1, 2, 3, or 4 or more years ago.
Put together a simple script before you call.
It’s been XX years since we [installed your deck / renovated you kitchen / etc.].
I’m calling to see how it’s holding up? Are you still has happy with our work as…Read more

Thanks for the insight, Mr. Stan!
Currently, things are picking and my dad asked that I pause his ad campaign so that we can get things prepped for the State inspection (passing the first time is crucial).
The most valuable thing I learned from the MRIC:
I need to stop juggling all this crap I put on my plate, and tackle them one by one.

The Freelance Course

Do you want to rent a list from someone else or do you have a list that you want to rent to others?
Just renting a list is generally not a good idea because, for one thing, no marketer that has a responsive list will rent it out to someone else with no control over what you would do with it. So, any list that you can rent will probably be of low…Read more
Thank you for replying, Virginia!
I already have a list of 10k authors and I would never rent it or share it but I keep reading about thing “renting list” thing so I wanted to see if I wasn’t missing anything.
I’m running an online summit for authors now and I have e-courses and services – always looking to capture more leads 🙂
