Hey guys, I’m selling a course on success with women as an affiliate.
I’m having issues on figuring out the features since it’s not a physical product, it’s a membership site. Are these considered features?…
* Learning to be good with women gives you freedom of choice.
* Years of experience.
* you’ll be detoxified from mainstream thinking…Read more

I’m trying to determine my own USP as a marketing consultant and copywriter. I’m too close to the matter to really get some perspective. What would be some good places to start to make what I offer super unique?

Purpose of all this is to get out of Vendor Land (or never go there, period). Some thoughts: I started and run my own non-copywriting/marketing business (shipping industry). Tech savvy ex-tech company guy (no big recognizable names or impressive title though). I like to see the Big Picture about what’s going on in the business and do things with…Read more

Hi Jonathan: Are you planning on staying in the same industry? If so, it seems like they are strictly B2B. You might want to look into Linkedin, if you haven’t done so already. It is probably the best B2B channel at this time.

Hi Jonathan: Do you have the Freelance Course? That would give you a path to take If you already have it, read it again and do what it says.

The first thing you have to do is nail down your target market. Become a specialist in one industry. Then take a look at the competition and see what it is that they aren’t doing, or aren’t doing well. If your competition is ignoring a specific advertising medium that is appropriate for your target market, then that would be a good way to show…Read more

And, you are right. You shouldn’t be spamming people on Facebook to get clients. Definitely in bad taste…

Thank you, I find it not-so-easy deciding who the ideal client is at this point. Just gotta dig in and see what fits, I suppose. Is there another / better way? I envision writing copy and proposing some strategy/project depending on what deeper issues are afoot.

Hi Everyone,
Hope you’re having a good weekend! I’ve written content on a part-time basis for years but have always been intimidated by the thought of writing ads and letters. I work for an accounting department for a university, and reconciling accounts is a step-by-step process with lots of moving parts to keep an eye on. It hit me that perhaps…Read more-
Hi Melody: Welcome to the Club!

John Carlton’s Best Ads: Black Hawk Down!
I read a lot. And I advise you to read a lot, too. As an old English teacher once told me: Read a book a week. And then, in your spare time, read another one. Non-fiction, and fiction. Newspapers and magazine excerpts don't count. (One trick I allow myself: At any...
John Carlton’s Best Ads: Your Personal Invitation
I love to do "personal invitations". It's the ultimate use of personalization. You don't have to make the piece "look" like a real invitation, but you can. I haven't tested this option, but my gut tells me a little ostentatious "wedding invite" detail would boost...

The Freelance Course

Basically I’m asking if the FACT that this course can teach you “how to do something”
Can be considered a feature.
* How to develop a cool social circle.
Then I’d add the benefits to it…
Hi Jose:
Yes, that could be considered a feature. You should state it from the prospect’s point of view, though. Instead of “it will teach you…” you are better off saying “you will learn…”.
Features also include: The way the info is delivered, (eight videos that are posted on a website or downloaded or whatever the case may be, or 5 PDFs,…Read more
I guess I repeated myself there, but there is no way to edit. I assume you get the idea.
Thank you so much!
Super helpful.
