Hi John.
I love your stories about being a slacker till your early thirties then hitting it big and demanding your way because you know your copy sells (like with Rodale, for instance).
Something that I’ve been curious about: how long did it take you to get to that level? Did that brash confidence come from consistently getting sales? What did y…Read more

Hi John,
In regards to the freelancer course question by another member, I had a question. What do you suggest for those of us who don’t have a Rolodex with potential clients? What agencies would you suggest approaching?
Thanks,
Bob-
Robert,
You can lookup agencies and copywriter-for-hire websites online. You’ll be among a LOT of writers if you go those routes. IMO, it’s not the best way to get jobs.
If you don’t have this already, get yourself 3 success stories. Contact everyone you know who might know someone who works in a business that needs copy (that’s all of…Read more

Hey John, recently bought The Freelancers Course and I’m reading through it for the second time… Solid GOLD.
Here’s my question:
Can you elaborate on what specifically you did as a new freelancer to “work your Rolodex”? Were you calling people regularly on the phone just to check in? (That feels like it’s listing toward “bothersome yahoo”…Read more

Hi Josh. This is all about your salesmanship chops. Look at your current network as a resource for your freelance career. Don’t abuse it, don’t mis-use it, but for sure don’t ignore it, either.
Think like a salesman. How might you approach people in your Rolodex (and, btw, I prefer a REAL Rolodex, with names written on cards you can flip…Read more

Hey John, yes, that makes a ton of sense. I’m prone to overthinking things, and I know I’m doing that here.
“Think like a salesman” (and what that actually means) is the #1 thing I’ve gotten from your teaching. I’m one of those writers learning to sell, so I need to have it pounded into my skull repeatedly.
Thanks!

Hi Marketing Rebel team. The two available kickass copywriting crash course videos are great! Are there any more of those that will become available?
-
Hi Tanner: We will be publishing them over the next few weeks. There are 8 in all. The next one will be published on Sunday.
-
Thanks Virginia!
-
Are they in the bonus material?
-
You can find them in the top menu (John Carlton’s Corner/Kickass Copywriting Crash Course). They are a part of the regular MRIC content. If you can’t find them, send me a PM
-
Thank you, Virginia. Also, please add me to the list for info regarding continued coaching. I’m very interested in continuing to be mentored by Jimbo Curley. Thank you.

John Carlton’s Best Ads: A Really Long Letter To Every Bodybuilder Who Secretly Believes The Fat Cats Are Ripping Him Off
Here is that notoriously-long letter I wrote to the bodybuilding market a few years back. It's a trimmed-down version of the 23-page letter that originally went out - we condensed a bunch of the charts and whittled the thing down to a nice and tidy 16 pages....

How to Create an “Add to Calendar” Link For Your Events

Everyone’s path to expertise will be different. For me, just getting good at being a “regular” copywriter for agencies was a goal — I didn’t think much beyond that, because I barely had an idea what a freelancer did, or what possibilities were out there.
After a couple of years, I had met Jay Abraham, and through him other copywriters who were…Read more
