Hey guys, looking for some strategic advice here.
I’ll keep this as short as I can:
I scored my first main ‘biz’ gig 2 months ago (boring story. VA’d for them for 2 years, studied the shit out of everything and when my boss left I knew it inside out).My focus all along is on learning marketing copywriting (I figured slipping my way in as a VA…Read more

Hi all! Do you have a copywriting and/or business mentor?
If so, how did you go about finding that person? Are they in your geographic area? I’m not talking $10k masterminds (of course, I aspire to be involved in one someday…) I’m talking, a mentor that I can work with, apprentice for, provide value to, in exchange for a real-life copyw…Read more

I would like to see how members answer this, myself.
I’ve had a number of mentors along my career — most were “stealth” mentors, not even realizing I was studying them. Jay Abraham was an early one — he was actually not very good at direct mentoring (his advice was often off-base for me), but watching what he DID was revolutionary. I learned…Read more

Ok thank, you. I have stealth mentors too and it’s good to know that it’s an acceptable form of mentoring. They obviously include you and Stan and it’s an incredible opportunity to get 1:1 responses in this forum from legends, when in the real-world, consulting with you is completely out of the question for me, right now at least.
It would be…Read more

Alicia I’m in a similar boat.
I ‘apprenticed’ for a year and a half as a VA to an online biz THINKING that I’d get mentorship. The ‘mentoring’ I got was from the school of hard knocks more than from the people in the business.
I learnt all the ways to do things wrong – and kept learning. One thing I’m obsessively loving right now is watching…Read more

Thanks Dan. It was really interesting to hear what’s going on with you at your company. I hope you take Stan’s advice and work on the 1-2 things that you can implement. That said, sounds like you work for a bunch of asshats and working in that type of environment is never easy. Please keep us posted. It’s great to have this forum to learn from the…Read more

Hi Alicia!
I wouldn’t say I have an actual mentor in the form of an actual mentor/student relationship however every course I take (whether it’s John’s,AWAI,UDEMY,edX,Coursera, etc.) or every good book I read that Instructor or author, (even though they themselves don’t realize it) has become a mentor of sorts! When I find the ones I feel Im…Read more-
Great point, Larry. Appreciate your insight.

PS also I’m a believer in the old saying that;
“When the student is ready, the teacher will appear” so it may just “happen” and you don’t realize it till it does! Again, Good Luck! -
This year has been revolutionary for me, because it’s the first time that I counsciously started to look out for mentors and coaches.
As you said, I finally internalized that you become the average of people you are surrounded with, so I am deliberately choosing who I let into “my circle”.
This can be in form of books, podcasts, online…Read more-
Hi Tanja!
Your having mentioned both Dean Jackson & Joe Polish you’re probably aware of it but for those who aren’t the two have an excellent podcast called “I LOVE MARKETING” which you can subscribe to at no cost! -
And, of course, Kevin Roger’s has his podcast, also at no cost, “The Truth about Marketing”.
He also shares a podcast with, our very own, John Carlton titled “PSYCH INSIGHTS FOR MODERN MARKETERS” The Jackson/Polish podcast & these two mentioned are all really informative and truly very enjoyable to listen to! -
Damn, girl. Get after it!
A different, enlightening perspective. Thanks!

Alicia;
Hello again! After re-reading your original question I realized I was totally off target, with my reply, for what you specifically asked (that’s what I get for looking at my iphone at 3 am lol)
I was gonna delete it but then figured I’d leave it maybe it will be appropriate for someone reading the thread and dosen’t actually need to be…Read more

Crazy Email Subject Line of the Day: I received an email (it was put into my spam folder) with the subject: “[Suspected Spam] Product recommendation by…”.
This is one of the nuttiest I have ever seen. Is that subject supposed to entice me to open the email?

How to Use SocialOomph to post to Twitter

Randomize Anything!
When you need to have a drawing.. for a prize or to randomly choose teams for a competition (or whatever else)... it is kind of hard to make a totally random selection. We found a random list generator that will select numbers, names, letters... anything you want....
Easily Spy on Your Competition’s Facebook Ads

How to Create a Facebook Instant Experience Ad
Facebook used to have what were called "Canvas" ads. They have been replaced with "Experience" ads, which have a lot more functionality. An Experience ad is, at the core, a regular Facebook ad with an additional webpage(s) attached. The page is still within Facebook...
Daniel, Your on the path that launched most of the business owners I know, including myself. The current boss hit is level of incompetence. Sometimes it’s 10 employees, sometimes it’s 100. Sometimes it’s $1,000,000 in revenue, sometimes it’s $50,000,000.
As you go through this, remember you can only control what you can control.
It sounds like…Read more
I think that’s exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks Stan – really appreciate it.
Had no idea this was a common situation. Seems like I’ve got a lot to ‘unlearn’ about business.
All of that advice is great. I think especially giving him the opportunity make things ‘his idea’.
I’ll definitely post some updates as I go along.
Thanks again man!
