Successful Sales Consultant Transitions to Copywriting and Consulting
That’s the short of it.
Of course I’m still in sales. As I transition from a traditional employer I’ll still be selling my services – though now it’ll be copywriting, consulting, etc – not so much a physical product from a manufacturer.
Started a sales career 12 years…Read more

Thank you for the welcome.
I did acquire the Freelance Course back in 2012 right after getting Kick Ass Secrets…now going back through it (all the steps), getting back up to speed, and preparing myself for this new journey – will definitely request a Hot Seat when I run into a snag or need it with.
Thanks again, have a great day,

Hey guys . . . glad to finally make the plunge. So far, I’m thinking this is one of the smartest moves that I’ve ever made. Been following Carlton for years and I never cease to learn something new. Currently I’m giving myself a “marketing makeover” once done studying the Kick-Ass Copywriting Course. I’ll keep ya’ll posted on my progress.

Hey guys, loving the course so far.
I’m dropshipping a particular watch for which I built a landing page a few months ago. It has generated over $30K so far but barely any profit as I spend money on ads and my CPA is too high. I’m planning to re-write the whole thing after I finish the course.
Dropshipping probably isn’t the best model but…Read more

Hi Jean-Christophe: You’re right. Watches are pretty utilitarian, and are quickly being replaced by Apple watches and cell phones. Unless you can find a mob of people who are chronically late, or unless your watches have some snob value you have kind of a tough climb.
You have to have enough of a margin to cover your ad costs.
You could…Read more

“I am definitely struggling to find a problem that a watch can solve”
I’m no expert on the men’s watch market but aren’t you selling status? Maybe confidence?

John Carlton’s Best Ads: Riding Buck Naked on a Clapped-Out 2 Stroke!
Every so often, one of my clients decides to go cause trouble in a completely new field. The following ad appeared in a niche magazine recently, and caused shock waves throughout the industry. Just like we intended. Most markets out there have never seen this type of...
John Carlton’s Best Ads: Secrets Revealed
Every market in existence has inside secrets. Yes, even yours, no matter what business you're in. There are secrets to French cooking, carpentry, scoring high in math tests, playing piano and becoming an astronaut. Also cleaning carpets, battling weeds in your garden,...
John Carlton’s Best Ads: Pithify Your Pitch
Here is a good example of a simple way to organize a sales message that has multiple parts to it. If I'd tried to tell a story incorporating all these points, the letter would have ended up 16 pages long. I write long copy, but not if the same thing can be said in a...
John Carlton’s Best Ads: Hyper-Effective Cover Letter #5 — Barbara, My Long-Suffering Secretary
One of the biggest mistakes marketers make... is to get tired of their own advertising before the ads are actually dead. Sometimes, they pull ads that are still cooking at peak efficiency. They see the ad every day, they get tired of it, bored with it, their spouse is...
Hi Randy: The first thing you have to look at is what do you want to do? You said you had a driving business. What did that entail? Since you already started a business, you know what is involved.
The first step would be to figure out what it is you want to do. If you can give us some idea as to what that would be then we can help get you…Read more
Hi Virginia:
Well, I hated the driving business, so I’m looking as this as an opportunity for change. I was thinking about using the materials on this site as an opportunity to become a marketer. I at least, have an opportunity and exploring it as a service to other’s if I can learn and master this?
Probably the first thing to do is go through the materials and see if it looks like something that would interest you. You have some experience in marketing already since you had to market your own business. Maybe you can use skills you already have and go into helping other similar businesses get clients, or teach the owners how to do it…Read more
Virginia, are you suggesting a lot of people just use this material to market something else that they are already doing or applying to any other sort of business they are looking at starting as their basis for marketing?
I’m not exactly sure what your question is, but you can use this info to either market for others, or use it for an existing business you have or one you start yourself.
