John’s landing page for SWS2.0 is a lesson in writing copy. I’ve always been intrigued by his guarantee. I would love to know the history of that guarantee. I really like the idea of getting the customer to put some “skin in the game”.
We are launching our art course this weekend and I am going to split test that guarantee against a more…Read more

Hi my name is Robert Sterling. I am a former SWS student who has been absent. No excuses. Life just got in the way.
Thankfully, I have found my way back to the nest after getting hot over the head with a bar stool by John Carlton when reading his book. – “Entrepreneur’s Guide.”
I have been writing, but I have been a supreme slacker and not…Read more

Hi Jesse: How much market research have you done? How many copywriters have you given this software to, that have actually used it and told you it is the answer to their prayers?

a few. no huge names yet but a few solid copywriters like even the starter version that didn’t even have all the features. Also I should mention, it is not strictly a copywriting tool. It is for the evergreen writers market. The swipes concept can be useful for other writing types too.

Hi Jesse: I see one major flaw in what this program does. When someone swipes a headline to use in their own copy, they don’t just take an existing headline and use synonyms to rewrite it. They would take the essence of the headline and rewrite it to fit their market. You don’t swipe an existing headline and use it in the same market. For…Read more

yes true. there are more word manipulation tools available. this is just a starting point. It doesn’t do it all for you…just makes getting a few hundred decent ones and then narrowing it down to a few to test much easier. It’s easy though, to do what you say…you can use replace features…and then work on them.

you can double click the swipe to edit it for your words. It let’s you fine tune all the swipes and brainstorm alternative words to get a few good ideas for each swipe.

John Carlton’s Best Ads: Slash Strokes… Without Even Trying!
Here, I confronted a major objection in the reader's mind right off the bat: Everyone on the house list for this client had recently been hammered with piece after piece... and the list was fatiguing. So I took a more clever path to their heart (and...
John Carlton’s Best Ads: Who Else Wants To Earn An Extra $96,485?
Here is a version of another ad I talk about in "Kick-Ass Copywriting Secrets". The client is a "coach"-- a consultant who helps doctors get their act together. Which, for most health care professionals, means reducing stress and work hours, while increasing...

The Freelance Course

There are a few reasons SWS Coaching has a “conditional guarantee”.
None of them are about maximizing upfront sales. All of them are about maximizing the experience for our customers and my team. (I define “customers” as those who do not refund. Those who buy and refund are prospects for other offers, but, in my vocabulary, not cus…Read more
Thank you, Stan for such a comprehensive and lucid explanation.
I’m of a mind, particularly after listening to Robert Gibson’s podcast interview with Kevin Rogers, that I’m more concerned about delivering the goods we promise to the client than worrying about who’s going to steal our stuff or buy/reject our offer.
At this point in our process…Read more
